"As Chief Executive of Chelsea Village Group I had full responsibility for
our hotel and restaurant operation. In discussion with GM it became obvious
that the Sales and Marketing team were enthusiastic but lacked direction and
focus. With only a small budget available we could not employ a full time
Sales Director.
We decided to appoint an external consultant to focus the sales team and set
up the necessary procedures which would remain in place after the consultant
had left. We decided to appoint Ursuline Edwards-Sutton because she brought
great experience in Sales and Marketing, her colleague brought good
knowledge of computer systems and the GM had worked with them before with
great success.
The consultancy took approximately four months to complete with the
resultant establishment of clear procedures for dealing with enquiries,
tracking progress and completing a detailed negotiation. One year later the
procedures put in place were still working and the client base had been
shifted away from a bias towards tour groups with the resultant pick up in
RevPar and occupancy. Though all this may sound obvious, the cultural change
that had to take place was enormous and would not have happened without the
work undertaken by Ursuline.
Such was her success with the hotel sales team that I asked her to develop
similar practices for the football club and travel business. I also asked
her to set up and facilitate an 'away day' to tease out the objectives,
strategy and annual targets and how best to achieve them. In both cases
these went down extremely well and resulted in an energized sales team
focused upon achieving the desired goals.
